THE NEW REPUBLICAN NEWSLETTER No. 66 (September 11, 2008) ------------------------------------------------------------ OIL BROKERS SEX SCANDAL Much of this first section is taken from excerpts of the following article by H. Josef Herbert, an Associated Press Writer, entitled "Oil brokers sex scandal may affect drilling debate." The article states that, "On the eve of Congress starting this big debate you've got a horror story of mismanagement and misconduct in programs that are going to be a key part of the discussion," Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said in an interview, adding that it can't help but influence the debate. The two-year, $5.3 million investigation by Interior's inspector general found workers at the Minerals Management Service's royalty collection office in Denver partying, having sex, using drugs and accepting gifts and ski trips and golf outings from energy company representatives with whom they did government business. The investigations exposed "a culture of ethical failure" and an agency rife with conflicts of interest, Inspector General Earl E. Devaney said. Between 2002 and 2006, 19 oil marketers - nearly a third of the Denver office staff - received gifts and gratuities from oil and gas companies, including Chevron Corp., Shell, Hess Corp. and Denver-based Gary-Williams Energy Corp., the investigators found. "Employees frequently consumed alcohol at industry functions, had used cocaine and marijuana, and had sexual relationships with oil and natural gas company representatives" who referred to some of the government workers as the "MMS Chicks." "This is why we must not allow Big Oil's agenda to be jammed through Congress," said Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., who strongly opposes any expansion of offshore drilling, especially closer to Florida. He said the report "shows the oil industry holds shocking sway over the administration and even key federal employees." ------------------------------------------------------------ A DEMOCRAT CHAIRMAN IN CHARGE Shocking sway over "even key federal employees?" This is precisely the point that must be remembered by every one reading this New Republican Newsletter. The article goes on to say that, "Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said the IG report 'raises very serious questions about the royalty collection process, something especially troublesome given the potential for expanded domestic drilling.'" It seems to me that if Senator Jeff Bingaman is the chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, he should have known what was going on. Even rumors or whispers. But nothing? However, if he didn't - then should he be in charge as a key federal employee? Is he no different from the corporate bandits that are ripping off American common stock holders for millions of dollars in "severance" pay as their companies, that they are the chairman of, go straight to hell - and then force the taxpayer to pick up the bill? ------------------------------------------------------------ YET ANOTHER DEMOCRAT CHAIRMAN IN CHARGE The article continues, further stating that, "Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, planned a hearing on the investigation next week. Two of the committee's key Republicans - Reps. Tom Davis of Virginia and Darrell Issa of California - criticized Waxman for not pursuing an investigation into the royalty program earlier. But Republicans rejected suggestions that the scandal makes the need for more offshore oil and gas any less urgent." So, Republicans called for this investigation much earlier but again, the Democrat chairman Henry Waxman didn't want to do it. What the hell is going on? And isn't the House Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer, yet another Democrat? ------------------------------------------------------------ THIS IS DEMOCRAT LEADERSHIP? Am I blaming Democrats? I'll let you decide that one. But remember, all this happened under the "leadership" of the Democrats. It would be very difficult to blame the Republicans - because there aren't any Republicans in the position of chairman in any of these "oversight" committees. Please bear in mind — the Democrats now control BOTH Houses of Congress. Then we have Democrat Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. Is this what we really want to have happen to our government? I am one to put blame where it belongs. Yes, Bush has made some foolish mistakes - both with the economy, Katrina and Iraq - and I have written about them - and so have the Democrats, in great lengths. If the party in charge takes the praise when things go well - then they should also take the blame when things go wrong. If the Democrats actually win the White House, along with both houses of Congress - how much further would this inept leadership go under their tutelage? I shudder to take a guess. ------------------------------------------------------------ THE PAST DEMOCRAT CONVENTION I didn't want to make any comments on the Democrat National Convention - but I am now forced to change that tact. Think, just for a minute, what actually took place - and no mention was ever made to the spectacle that was so brazenly paraded before, We the People. I am not talking about the Greek pedestals or the outdoor speaking engagement at the end of this extravaganza. That was all politics - and it was good theater indeed. What I am referring to took place "inside" the convention center. A standing ovation for Edward (Ted) Kennedy - who still lingers under the shadow of Chappaquiddick and Mary Jo Kopechne's "mysterious death." What no one wants to say now - since Kennedy has a brain tumor - is that he ran away to save his ass and his political career, not to mention the family name. A standing ovation for William Jefferson Clinton - who had numerous sexual harassment charges brought against him as sitting president and only the second president to be impeached in American history (the other being Andrew Johnson - yet another Democrat) for lying under oath. Let's not even mention the questionable deaths of both Ron Brown and Vince Foster, along with a number of other deaths purportedly linked to the Clintons. We have a very troubling scenario developing right in front of our eyes. And then we have to ask, where was John Edwards during the convention? And Jessie Jackson? We obviously know why they were not in attendance. Why are people so afraid to ask these questions? Then the Democrats make a "safe" pick and go with Joe Biden - a two-time presidential candidate who lost both attempts and self-admitted plagiarist, to boot. If the Republicans had the audacious gall to parade a group the likes of these "federal officials" the Democrats would have howled their heads off - and for very good reason. As it happened - no one said a word. So what the hell is going on? ------------------------------------------------------------ POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE AWRY - A FEMALE REPUBLICAN VP Now that the Democrats blew their VP choice completely, out comes John McCain, shooting from the hip - and choosing Sarah Palin as his VP running mate. Talk about blowing Political Correctness to smithereens. And THAT is what has the Democrats pissed to no end. The Democrats consider themselves to be the party of diversity - but they are not. They shafted the best VP choice they ever had - Hillary Clinton. Not to mention that she really should have been the presidential nominee - not Obama. But the Democrats got sucked into playing the "race" card and the "sexist" card - on themselves. Much to the Democrats chagrin the Republicans did neither. This was a major political miscalculation on the part of those inept leaders running the Democrats at the moment. And they just keep miscalculating. Now they are aghast that the Republicans - the party of Lincoln, and the party credited with freeing the slaves - are now going to be the party with the first female vice-president. This is unthinkable. Six months ago no one would have ever predicted this. Well, almost no one. But take this one step further. McCain gets elected and perhaps serves only one term. In comes Palin as the presumptive presidential candidate - and chooses Bobby Jindal (as one of my most astute readers, recently relocated to Tennessee, theorized) as Palin's vice-presidential running mate. Judas Priest! A woman president - and an "ethnic Indian" as vice-president. Can we get any more ethnically diverse than that? And they are both REPUBLICANS! The Democrats are looking at another 8 to 12 year drought with regard to the White House. Politically speaking, this would be catastrophic. THAT is what all the commotion is about. And that is why this presidential election is almost a "make or break" situation for the Democrats. This is why all the horrendous vindictiveness is being heaped upon Sarah Palin. The Democrats are scared to death - and they have no idea what to do. I have received a ton of e-mail from many liberal readers wailing that the Democrats are going to lose. Many have already given up. They can't believe that they are heading toward yet another presidential defeat. Especially after Obama had such an insurmountable lead. I have never gotten so many angry, hateful e-mails as I have in recent weeks. It is astounding how much venom seeps through these messages. I actually feel sorry for anyone who has to labor under such extreme hate on a daily basis. It will be interesting indeed to see what happens on November 4, 2008 - a date that just might "live in infamy." I still predict a McCain/Palin victory. I have a lot of money riding on it - a lot of tax money! ------------------------------------------------------------ THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS IS NOT OVER On to a rapidly developing international crisis that very few people are aware of. History does not repeat itself. For those of you who read history - and understand its long-term implications - you will realize that history is just a continuing course of world events. Russia, for hundreds of years has sought a "warm water" port from which to launch its navy, to finally realize its perceived destiny of world domination. "Warm water" means a port that does not freeze. It is impossible to move large warships once they are frozen in by the Siberian winter. From Peter the Great to Catherine the Great to the murderous Josef Stalin - to the new leader Vladimir Putin the Great - Russia is again on its historical move. And again, the gullible American public has its collective head firmly planted where the sun don't shine. As of this morning two Russian warships are now off the coast of Venezuela to take part in military exercises in conjunction with that country. What most don't know is that the Russians are now in secret consultations with Cuba to reintroduce missiles into that country (as very astutely pointed out to me by another avid reader, and Bellingham resident) on the pretense that - since the USA is putting missiles on the Russian border, let's see how the Americans like Russian missiles on their border. Vladimir Putin is a man to be reckoned with. He is classically cunning, extremely deft in the Art of War (Sun-Tsu) and is a brilliant military strategist. He knows full well that the United States is stretched to the limits in Iraq and Afghanistan, did little to affect the invasion of Georgia and can do even less to stop Russia from building missiles in South America, not to mention on Cuban soil. The Russian "face" is still smarting from the Cuban Missile Crisis - and they are going to get even some day - soon. ------------------------------------------------------------ JIMMY CARTER AND THE GREAT GIVEAWAY - YET ANOTHER DEMOCRAT And then we have the Crown Jewel of Central America - The Republic of Panama. Few Americans realize that China is still a strong ally of Russia. But beyond that, almost no one knows that a Chinese conglomerate (Hutchinson Whampoa) owns the company that controls BOTH ingress and egress - to the Panama Canal. Thanks to President Jimmy Carter, the USA no longer owns, nor controls, the Panama Canal. Now, the only thing standing between China and Russia taking complete control of the Panama Canal is the Republic of Panama's military. This is an extreme chance of commercial and military control that Russia - and Vladimir the Great - are very well aware of. Let's hope this scenario never plays itself out. Whether Palin can deal with Putin isn't the question. She is not running for president. John McCain is. I have no doubt that McCain can handle Putin. And he wouldn't just try to talk - that I can assure you. The question remains - Biden is not running for president, either. Obama is. Does he have what it takes to deal with Vladimir Putin? I seriously don't think so. Talking simply isn't going to get it done - not when you consider the historical background of both Russia and the Chinese. Whoever is elected will have to deal with this very real threat. And for those of you who think I am "fear-mongering" all I ask of you is to read your history - with both eyes fully open. And if that doesn't convince you, then maybe you should check with the people of Georgia for re-conformation of historical facts. I hope that, whoever is elected, is up to the task - for the sake of America, and that of the free world. Best wishes and keep thinking positive.
